What is BCI Certification?
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is an international program dedicated to promoting the production of cotton in a more sustainable way. The initiative sets out high-standard principles and guidelines for cotton production at social, environmental and economic levels, with the goal of improving the sustainability of the global cotton supply chain.
- Comprehensive supply chain traceability: BCI has established a comprehensive tracking system to provide transparency into the flow of cotton from farm to processing plant.
- Global influence: Since the first harvest of Better Cotton in 2010, BCI has been committed to promoting it as a mainstream global commodity and creating demand for more sustainable cotton.
- Integrating multiple initiatives: BCI complements other sustainability programs such as Africa (CmiA) certification, fair trade cotton, organic cotton, etc. to jointly enhance the sustainable development of the cotton industry.
Vision and Goals
BCI’s core purpose is to achieve mass market production of cotton, reduce ecological impact, improve farmers’ well-being by promoting “Better Cotton”, while meeting the needs of businesses and consumers for sustainable products.
